John Buchanan Family Group

Great grandma Emmer had two children when her husband, John Henry Buchanan left her. It seems he did not accept the second child. A woman once said to her, "I will make a dress for the baby if you name her Pansy."

Ethel lived with Henry and Mary Ann Buchanan, her paternal grandparents. Emmer worked in other people's homes to support them. She made a dollar a week. On her day off, she would ride a horse for 4 hours, visit with Ethel for a while, then return to her job. (from Douglas County, Missouri History and Families 1857-1995)
